Christopher McCormick | Senior Director, Talent, Development and Inclusion | Gilead Sciences, Inc.

Since 2021, Christopher McCormick has excelled as the Senior Director of Talent, Development, and Inclusion at Gilead Sciences, Inc., a company that serves to “create a healthier world for all people” through pioneering medicines, remedies, and transformative science. An award-winning human resources leader with more than 20 years of experience across healthcare, technology, retail, and financial services companies, he is focused on employee development and talent management; collaborating with chief financial officers, general counsels, and chief human resources officers to align business and people strategies; and maintaining inclusivity to foster equity for underrepresented groups in the workplace. In addition, he shares his expertise as a guest lecturer at Golden Gate University, where, since 2017, he has led a module focused on diversity, equity, and inclusion.

In the past year, Mr. McCormick achieved notable recognition by CIO Today magazine as one of the most visionary human resources professionals of 2023 and among the Top 50 HR Professionals of the year. Additionally, he co-authored a research paper in collaboration with Global Leadership Associates, focusing on the intersection of adult development and its role in supporting diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice initiatives. The paper garnered significant attention, leading him to conduct a series of podcast interviews, and now he is actively collaborating with GLA to develop a comprehensive program based on the paper’s findings, incorporating assessments and workshops to further promote its principles. Also an advocate for the LGBTQ+ community, he dedicates his time to the organization Lesbians Who Tech & Allies, where he has been on the advisory board and executive board since 2023.

Mr. McCormick launched his accomplished career as a consultant at Image Improvement, Inc. from 1989 to 1995 and subsequently became an HR executive at Bank of America Corporation, serving as vice president, VP of Program Management, Contact Center Site Manager, and CANW Transformation Employee Readiness Leader between 1997 and 2012. He followed up these roles with positions in Leadership and Global Talent Development at Starbucks, then was active for years as a Global Head of Talent at HP Development Company, L.P. and a Senior Human Resources Business Partner at Blue Shield of California.

Looking toward the future, Mr. McCormick anticipates becoming chief human resources officer within the next decade. He also wants to launch a consulting practice after retiring from the corporate world, at some point in the next 15 years. His overall goal is to leave a lasting impact on the world, with the hopeful vision of creating a better world by fostering greater equity within systems.
